This letter will be emailed to District 1 Councilman Robert Treviño and Capital Projects Manager Richard Casiano:
“Thank you for your efforts to invest in Fredericksburg Rd. and make it a more inviting corridor. Many cyclists bike on this road because it’s the most direct way to get from the NW to downtown. I support the preliminary design to potentially add bike lanes. However, this is not enough to make it safe for the 8 to 80-year-olds.
We need to be installing real safe bike infrastructure with physical barriers between cars and bikes. In cities around the world that take these measures, up to 50 percent of their trips are by bike with very few injuries. Let’s step up to the plate and fulfill our crash goals of Vision Zero and the Mayor’s commitment to The Mayors’ National Climate Action Agenda, and start investing in real safe bikeways.”
